Using sayit™ With Motor Neurone Disease

sayit™ was originally developed for use by a patient with Motor Neurone Disease (MND / ALS). The evolution of the core product and the development of the original versions of sayit™ Scanner and sayit™ Mouse happened as a direct response to the onset of various stages of the disease for that original patient. As such sayit™, perhaps has a closer fit to the needs of the MND patients than any other suite of software products available on the market today.

sayit™ has many features that make it a particularly appropriate choice for users with Motor Neurone Disease. Among them are:

  • The software suite is fully integrated and caters for loss of dexterity in the hands and fingers and well as total or partial loss of speech. The vocabulary and learning developed whilst the patient is using one component carry over to be available as some as the next component is required. For example, a patient who needed to move from the core speech module to the scanner option would retain all vocabulary developed with the original module.
  • sayit™ has been designed for use with minimal need for assistance from carers or other family members. In nearly all cases the user is able to make modifications to the software parameters themselves using assistive technology.
  • sayit™'s ability to allow complete control of a laptop or desktop PC, coupled with the seamless access it provides to email and telephone allow MND patients to continue working for longer than previously would have been possible.
  • sayit™ can be easily used with web browsers, providing MND patients with an outlet for research, communication and entertainment that would otherwise have been denied to them.
